| “I was born in Washington, D.C., December of 1955. My Parents, Julian and Helen Fernandez, nurtured my artistic development from the very beginning. My home was an eclectic mixture of Spanish and Irish culture. I started out primarily as a painter. I traveled in Europe and the Americas seeking inspiration. There is an old saying: "When the student is ready the master will appear." My first great teacher must be said to be Michelangelo. His acknowledgement of God and humble serving attitude became permanently imprinted in me. |
In my opinion, discerning what is pleasing to the Lord is critical. Encouragement is also important to especially to the artist who shares from deep within his soul. The point of origin for encouragement must come from God's throne. He will, if asked, send the appropriate support, and the grace to discern. The balancing required in life brings to mind the image of a juggler. I see myself in that role; as a husband, father, son, brother, friend, and interwoven through all these, artist. Knowing how not to be fixated with any one dimension of what I am juggling, but rather concentrating on the many faces of Divine Love. |
